You sit down for some serious gaming, and then you see it, a red light on your Xbox, or maybe multiple red lights! Is it time to panic yet? No, because most problems with the Xbox 360 are easy enough to fix. Here are some tips on how to easily solve some common problems.
If your system has overheated:
If your Xbox is showing the top left and bottom left lights flashing, then your system is cooking! This shouldn't be a big problem as it's just a matter of cooling her down to get things up and running again. Overheating is bad, as with any computer system, and it can cause your games to freeze up while you're playing. If your system does succumb to overheating, simply shut it off and give it some time to cool down. Make sure the fan is running and that the vents aren't blocked, and you should be fine. Running a cold bath for you and your system is however, a very bad idea.
If your system's hardware is generally erroneous:
If you're seeing flashing red on all but the top right light, then you've got yourself a general hardware error. There is nothing to panic about here either. The first thing to try is the good ol' restart. Switch your system off, give it a few seconds and then turn it back on. If the problem hasn't gone away, then turn the system off, remove the hard drive and turn the system back on. There's a good chance your lights will all be green, and if so, simply turn the system off again, stick the hard drive back in and restart.
If all your lights are flashing, your AV cable needs to get its act together:
All four lights flashing means the AV cable can't be detected. The obvious first attempt at a fix for this is to make sure it's plugged in properly in the first place. If it is, unplug it and then re-attach it. No luck? Try wiping down the contact surfaces with a clean, dry cloth. Sometimes these surfaces get dirty, and that can cause problems. A good wipe may do the trick. If it doesn't though, then it might be time to invest in a new cable.
If just the bottom right light is flashing, your hardware has failed. Time to let your inner mechanic out.
A single red light flashing in the bottom right corner means you have a hardware failure. This could be any number of errors, and you should see an error code on your screen. This code will allow you to figure out the exact error you're dealing with. In the case of a hardware failure, you'll probably need to do a little more invasive fixing. It isn't hard, and anyone can do it, so long as they have good instructions! You'll want to hit the net and find yourself a quality repair guide for this one. Poking around without being sure of what you're doing first will probably do more harm than good.
Now that you know some simple steps you can take to help your Xbox when it's sick, hopefully you should have no trouble when any future snafu's come up during your gaming. Remember though, if you do need to do a more involved repair (as with a hardware failure), make sure to do your research first! It could mean the difference between fixing your system or turning it into an expensive paper weight!

Most of us out there today fail in our weight loss efforts due to two main reasons. The first is we do not exercise. The second is the fact that we do not set realistic goals when we plan our exercise sessions, the result of which we lose motivation once the goals are not accomplished and subsequently lose heart. And when we lose motivation, it is hard to continue working out or exercising when your heart is not in it. For those who do not workout, it is down to pure laziness or lack of time in their daily schedules. Those who struggle to find time to exercise should try to plan their workout plans during weekends or probably fit in an hour or so after or before work to allow for these workout sessions.
Working out effectively is not difficult, provided you plan your workouts in advance and realistically. In reality, you would probably be able to lose weight through simple exercises that could be incorporated in your everyday activities. For starters, start walking instead of driving everywhere! If the grocery store is a few hundred meters away from your home, why not take a quick walk to the store instead of driving there? You could lose a few calories simply by walking. Apply the same principles at your workplace, instead of taking the elevator up to your office, choose the stairs instead in the morning. You could also practise brisk walking instead of walking leisurely, and this would help burn a little bit more calories.
Another way of losing weight would be to create your own gym at home. Most people are most comfortable in their own homes, thus it is recommended that you allocate some space in your home and get some equipment such as a treadmill and a stationary bicycle to fit into the space, this would help you create your own mini-gym at home where you could exercise at your leisure. Or if you do not like working out at home, head to one of the neighbourhood gyms that are available, you could also do weight exercises there that would assist in your weight loss efforts. Or take up some form of sports. Swimming is a good option, so are outdoor cycling, tennis and basketball. Those who love the outdoors should try hiking, mountaineering, trekking as well as other outdoor-based activities.
Planning your workouts effectively would go a long way in ensuring that you lose weight effectively, thus make sure that you plan realistically to avoid disappointment.

Balance Weight Game

When the Wii Fit, the Nintendo video game, told me my 'fit age' was 41 - a decade older than I actually am - I took it personally. After all, I run 32km a week and weight train twice a week. As I stood on its wireless balance board, Wii Fit gauged my BMI and had me perform stability tests. Though I was slightly underweight, my balance scores were apparently pathetic enough to age me. So I tackled Wii's fitness games for a week. Here's what I learned.
Balance
The Routine
Four initial exercises; five advanced available.
Best For
Improving posture and overall body alignment.
Pros
Heading soccer balls, walking on a side and lean forward slightly. My balance scores shot up after a half hour of practice.
Cons
While the games kept me entertained for a week, I imagine I'd soon be sick of them and the post-workout evaluations by the virtual trainer who has a revolving script of tiresome one-liners.
Yoga
The Routine
Four poses initially. Master these, and 11 more are 'unlocked.'
Best For
Stretching slackers.
Pros
My tight hamstrings could certainly benefit from yoga, if I had the time and courage. With the Wii, I was able to confidently work on my poses in private. And because the four-pose routine lasted only 10 minutes, I did it five days a week.
Cons
My den isn't exactly Zen, so it was easy to get distracted. And I have to think doing Warrior I with one leg elevated on the board would appall yoga traditionalists. After a week, I was bored with the same poses - and you do them one at a time, without the flow of a normal yoga routine.
Cardio
The Routine
Choose from nine workouts, lasting up to 30 minutes.
Best For
Cross-training.
Pros
Of the games (jogging, dancing, step aerobics, etc.), boxing was my favorite. I burned some calories - and some steam.
Cons
Running in place in front of my TV was torture. I could never stand it long enough to get in any semblance of a legit training run.
Strength
The Routine

Best For
Starting a strength-training routine.
Pros
This category has the best variety of activities, ranging from push-ups to lunges.
Cons
Wii sends you back to the main menu after doing only one set when I could've easily banged out two or three sets. And it's a far cry from a living, breathing trainer. The Wii gives you the basics, but it's not customized to your individual needs - especially if you have injury issues.
