10 Secrets to Succeeding at New Year Resolutions:
Success at last.

If you apply these 10 secrets to your New Years Resolution or any other goals you will find greater success. You results will be easier and longer lasting with out all the struggle and disappointment.
When your conscious and sub-conscious mind is aligned with the same goal success is natural.

1. Pick a resolution YOU really want. Make sure you are invested 100% in this goal. If you are doing it for your wife/husband, kids or boss you will find it more difficult. Motivation runs out fast when it is not really what YOU wanted in the first place.

2.Write it down and put it where you can see it with a date to accomplish the goal. Be realistic.

3.Break it down in little steps. Make it easy for yourself.

4.Create a positive affirmation stated in the future as if you have already accomplished it. An example would be: “ I weight 130lbs. I love exercising and my body is healthy and strong. I eat healthy meals and enjoy my food.” State this affirmation each day at least one time.

5.Consider using techniques that help you identify and release any resistance you might have in your sub-conscious mind to achieving your goal. When we fail at a goal that we really want we usually have some sub-conscious resistance to achieving the goal. An example might be: If you wanted to stop smoking on the conscious level but your sub-conscious mind wanted to hang onto the habit to manage stress in your life in a familiar way. If the sub-conscious was not brought on board with the goal then the change will not happen. Some techniques that can help change sub-conscious sabotage are: Hypnosis, Rapid Eye Technology & Emotional Freedom Techniques.

6.Reward yourself for any movement in the direction of your goal. Find something that you really want or enjoy and reward yourself with it when you hit big bench marks but remember to reward yourself daily with something smaller each day you move in the right direction.

7.If you slip backwards do not give up. Forgive yourself and ask yourself what might be blocking you and if you need to adjust your goal or change the date of accomplishment. Be realistic with yourself about what you can accomplish in the time given.

8.In list a friend or coach to help keep you on task and focused. There is safety in numbers. It is great if you have someone who is trying to accomplish the same goal that you can lean on in time of need. If you know someone is waiting for example at the gym to workout with you then you are a lot more likely to follow through. But you can choose someone who is not working toward the same goal but can be a good support in the way you need it. Make sure your personalities match with your motivation style. Do you need a gentle style or a more rigid style of motivation?

9.Determine how you are personally motivated. People are either motivated towards something positive or away from something negative. About 70% of us are motivated away from the negative. Find out how you are motivated and use that to your advantage. If you are motivated by positive then really make a big deal of the positive you will receive when you accomplish the goal. If you are motivated by negative then emphasize the negative. However as you move toward the positive rewards of the goal then start to switch your emphasis towards the rewards of the goal and away from the negative of not accomplishing the goal. An example would be if you wanted to lose weight the negative would want to get away from the health problems and the way you look. But as you move closer to the goal start to focus more on how wonderful you are feeling and looking.

10.See yourself already there. Take 10 minutes each day to close your eyes and see your goal already achieved. Feel what it feels like to be successful. Involve all of your senses in this imagery. If your sub-conscious mind can see you there and feels good about it you will succeed.

If you have a young person in your life with a weight problem... acknowledged or not... this latest study is going to give you a unique way to encourage healthy habits. Reading. Obesity researchers at Duke University found that reading (the last activity that you'd expect) helped teen girls enrolled in weight loss programs.

The researchers looked at 31 obese girls, between the ages of 9 and 13 who were enrolled in the Healthy Lifestyles Program at Duke Children's Hospital. The average body mass index (BMI) of the young subjects in the study was 27 to 28. Girls of this age usually have a BMI of between 16 and 19.

The program, now in its second successful year, works to address patients' medical, dietary and behavioral needs. Treatment includes an extensive initial evaluation, an intensive lifestyle intervention phase that lasts six months and a maintenance phase that remains in place until adulthood. As part of their program, some of the girls read a novel titled Lake Rescue, where the heroine is an overweight girl struggling with low self esteem, isolation and teasing. Another group of obese girls read a different novel, and a smaller group didn't read at all.

Here's the strange thing... all the girls who read books lost weight, but the ones who read the book with the overweight theme lost significantly more. The Lake Rescue readers lowered their body mass by .71, compared to .33 for the other group of readers. The girls who did not read saw an increase of .05 in BMI.

The idea behind the approach was to find something to motivate the teens, without being strict and authoritative. The book was the perfect choice as it presents a likeable character who works through her issues and learns to make healthier choices. And since there aren't many choices to help young teens loose weight, reading is a unique approach that can be helpful on many levels.

All of us need to be aware of the epidemic proportions of childhood obesity in our country. Truth is, this didn't start overnight, it has roots as far back as the 1960s. Fast food and gargantuan portion sizes continue to play their part. As do the TV and computer, keeping kids sitting so much of the time. Throw in some fear for their safety, and working parents who don't have the flexibility to take kids to sporting activities and you can see how we got here.

No one person is to blame, and no one person on their own can change things.

But here's what you can do. Consider the results of the research as you try to reach that young person you know could use help. Choose a novel with care... something well written where the main character learns to make good choices and triumphs in the end. A choice for boys might appeal to their taste, yet still convey a message that an out of shape hero can make changes, be happy and maybe even get the girl.

It would also be wise to keep in mind the researchers intent for the weight loss programs - no pressure, no force, just exposure to a good message at the right time.

I hope is is successful! There is a real problem with obesity in this country, for adults as well as kids, and it needs to be addressed. It would be a good idea if Shaq had other celebs join in and help with this growing problem that will ultimately affect all of us due to various health costs and health related issues.

what kind of specialist should i go to for weight loss?

i have about 40 pounds to lose and it's proving to be very hard to lose. i feel ive always eaten the same way and gained this amounf of weight on only 2-3 years and im only 25. ive had some other random health problems that may or may not be connected. whenever i go to my general practicioner she's like there's nothing wrong with you and that i am not taking care of myself and not a kid anymore. she may be a bit right but I would still like to see if there are underlying causes to this. nutritionists just create menus and chart your weight loss progess, so what kind of doctor would i go to for this? i am not at all fat enough for stomache surgery and dont really believe in it anyway. i would like to get my metabolism/thyroid, etc. tested?

Number one person you should go to is nutritionist even though you said you should not. Dieting is 80% of losing weight after that I would also advise seeing a personal trainer to help develop a workout routinue that works for you.

Many people want to lose weight and if you've ever tried then you should already realize just how difficult this can be. This is equally difficult for children. Any successful weight loss program will concentrate not only on losing weight but also improving confidence levels. It can be very difficult to make overweight individuals feel good and confident because of years of teasing from peers. There are quite a few motivational techniques which can be applied to your life in order to make you more committed to losing weight.

1. Progress

You will want to know how your weight loss plans are working for you and to make this possible you should track your progress. Any good weight loss camp should weigh you every week; this will give the kids an indication of how much they have managed to lose. If they actually see that they are losing weight then they will feel much better about themselves. Some campers will keep a small journal which can be used to record your experiences and also to record how much weight you have lost each week. Even when you go home you can carry on weighing yourself, seeing that your hard work has resulted in some weight loss will help to keep your kids motivated.

2. Enjoy

Weight loss camps are successful because they make exercise fun and enjoyable. Exercise only seems like hard work if it is a chore, if however it is something that you enjoy then you won't even realize that you are losing weight or doing any exercise. These camps will teach how to choose foods based on calories and show that by making a few good decisions in terms of your diet you can still enjoy the things that you like to eat.

3. Getting Help

Weight loss camps are a great way of getting the help and support that you need to change your life for the better. The counselors aren't the only people who offer the support. Everyone else is in the same boat as yourself and that means that they are much more likely to offer you extra support. Many kids find that this extra support is a great way to stay motivated and actually shed some pounds. Children love this support because they're not used to it. At school they often get teased and tormented. As you manage to lose weight you will be able to improve your life and start looking better, you can also make yourself feel more confident. Getting in touch with some great new friends who have a similar problem to yourself will help with your goals.

4. Goals

You need to set yourself goals so that you can make sure you are on track. You can keep yourself motivated by looking at the positive effects of weight loss. You will have more energy, feel more confident and live a longer and happier life. You can use these goals to keep yourself motivated even when you leave the camp. If you are ever tempted to eat anything unhealthy then you can convince yourself that it's not a good idea to eat it by reinforcing your goals. Set yourself long and short term goals to help motivate you.

5. Education

You should learn about the consequences of eating certain types of food. If you eat greasy foods or lead an unhealthy lifestyle then this can have a huge toll on your life. This education should provide you with plenty of motivation to help improve your life and get your life back on the rails. Kids and young adults all need to learn about nutrition and exercise. This education will help you to understand about the differences between healthy and unhealthy foods and the consequences.
