Finance involves two key areas for decision making: procurement of funds and application of funds. In effect both the decision are critical from a company's standpoint. A company is willing to invest in a new project as long as it increases the shareholder's wealth and generates a reasonable return over the cost of procuring the capital.
Lets suppose a company decides to invest in a project which involves application of funds decision as per above. Although its impossible to predict the future cash flow to be generated if the project is undertaken, however some sort of analysis and prediction is involved to enable managers to take decision. Based on certain assumptions and probabilities future cash flows are calculated for the tenure of the project involved. Initial investment is known with certainty as its required in year zero.
Looking at the above situation one thing is clear that you cannot simply add up all the predicted future cash inflows and subtract the sum from the initial investment to come to a decision as to the project's viability. The simple reason behind this is that as time passes by the real value of money deteriorates. So its safe to conclude that money has got time value and an individual would prefer a dollar today as compared to a dollar a year later because of two strong reason: Inflation drops the purchasing power of a dollar a year down the line and interest can be earned if the dollar is invested today to generate interest + principal a year hence.
So all the future cash flows occurring at different point in times need to be discounted back to year zero and aggregated in order to evaluate the viability of the proposed project. This throws an obvious question as to what discounting rate to be used? Answer to that is Weighted Average Cost of Capital or popularly known as WACC.
Broadly speaking a company has two major ways in which it can finance the capital requirement of its new project: debt and equity. Since the company needs to pay back interest to the debtholders (cost of debt) and dividends to the equityholders (cost of equity), together they form the total cost of capital procurement from the companies standpoint. Usually companies uses a mix of both debt and equity to fund its new project and hence we need to find the weights of individual source of funds (debt or equity) in order to calculate the WACC. Now how do we measure weights, its simply the market value of a source divided by the total market value of the firm. Its important to note that market value weights are considered here rather than book value since we are calculating the expected cost of the capital to be invested in the new project.
WACC is then calculated by simply multiplying the cost of respective source with its respective market based weights in the total capital structure of the company. WACC takes into consideration the overall cost of capital of the company while evaluating the project's viability.
WACC is calculated as follows:
WACC = [{cost of debt * (1-t) * D/V} + {cost of equity * E/V}]
Where D = Value of Debt
E = Value of Equity
V = Total Value of Firm
Cost of debt = Interest rate required by debtholders.
Cost of Equity = Expected rate of return calculated using the CAPM model.
A closer look at the above formula shows that a company can lower its overall cost of capital or the WACC if it increases the debt component in its capital structure vis-a-vis equity. This is because interest is a tax deductible expenditure while dividend is not. In other words increase in debt will involve more interest expenses which is an allowable expense while calculating corporate tax and hence saves tax to a certain extent.
If that is to be true why do company don't heavily rely on debt financing. Well, simply because the more debt in the capital structure exposes the company to higher risk of financial distress. So the challenge often faced by firms is to have appropriate level of debt and equity to reduce the overall cost of capital without jeopardizing the overall financial health of the firm.

what are the other types of weight-measuring devices? what are their limits?
aside from platform balances...
It is all depending what you are going to measure and how accurate you want it to be. You do not want to measure Grams using a Kilograms weighing platform. You do not want to measure grams of golds using normal weighing machine but you may consider using load cell.
Normally you need to determine what kind of weighing scale corresponding of which weighing machine you need to choose. Then, from there choose the appropriate weighing technology to give yo accuracy. You may refer to some vendor catalogue to see their accuracy and limits

Celebrity diets and weight loss - Are you look for information on celebrity diets and weight loss? In this article I will look at how they do it. What we all need to remember is that their next 7-figure payment is dependent on them regaining their pre-pregnancy shape or fitness for a film, in the shortest possible time.
Many Hollywood celebrities resort to som extreme weight loss methods so that they can lose their excess fat as in the shortest possible time.
Here's a very light-hearted look at a celebrity diet after having a baby:

9. Pay around $100,000 to the nutritionist, personal fitness trainer, chef, therapist, publicist, PR person, and personal agent
10. Eat three tubs of ice cream, walk to the bank and back those cheques!
So what weight loss lessons an we learn from celebrity weight loss plans and diets?
There are some important lessons to take from celebrity diets and weight loss......
1. Celebrities need to lose weight of their carers.
Ordinary people like us just don't have access to 7-figure payouts to motivate us to losing our extra pounds. We can find our own personal incentive to keep us motivated. The thing to remember is that a strong incentive definitely helps with weight loss. Act like a celebrity dieter and get incentivized!
2. Celebrities have access to lots of weight loss support and help.
Celebrites dont always utilize all the experts they use, but at least they don't make the mistake of trying to lose weight on their own. Support boosts weight reduction. So act like a celebrity dieter and find as much help and support as you can.
Following a well structured weight loss program or investing in a dieting product is the only proven way to drop your overall body fat percentage.

Do the space saver vaccuum storage bags lessen the weight of the items inside also?
I know that those space saver vaccuum storage bags make it easier to fit more into your suitcase because it lessens the volume, but does the weight stay the same? I'm going to New York, so I have to bring a lot of heavy clothing since it's winter, but I really don't want to have to get another suitcase, but I don't want my baggage to go over the weight limit and have to pay anyways if I use these vaccuum bags.
No., ten pounds of fluffy sweater weight would weigh the same as ten pounds of flat sweater weight.

Another concentration question....?
If 15.0 g of CaCl2 are present in 250 mL of aqueous solution, what is the concentration in terms of the following?
a) molarity
b) weight/volume percent
c) parts per thousand
d) parts per million
e) parts per billion
I know what the answers are per the back of my chem book, but I need to know how to get these answers so I know to do these kind of problems. I have:
a)0.540 M
b) 6.0% (w/v)
c) 60 ppt
d) 6.0 x 10^4 ppm
e) 6.0 x 10^7 ppb
I actually figured out the steps for b), c), d), and e). I just can't figure out the steps for a) molarity
the key to a is the definition of molarity - moles dissolved in a liter of solution. You have15g in 250 ml of solution which is the sae as 4x15 or 60 grams per liter of solution.

There are golf clubs that are scientifically designed and engineered to produce exactly the same results irrespective of ho uses the club. Results will only differ in HOW you use the clubs this is why there are champions and amateurs. Technology reveals to us the many talents we have hidden in our area of expertise – golf. These talents were hidden from the original players of the game –only because they never had technology backing them. To begin with being able to travel across miles of golf courses in a golf cart is one of the advantages of technology that our predecessors did not have, being able to do so saves a lot of time and energy, allowing for a better game of golf.
The most prominent effect technology has had on golf is the scientific manufacturing of golf clubs. Graphite was not used in years gone by. This has enhanced the game to a great extent. These graphite clubs have greater flexibility a characteristic that is just right for many golfers. Flexibility allows the player to have a more powerful swing due to the reduced trailing weight of the graphite club. The shape of the club has also undergone drastic changes in recent years. A great del of precision being added to the club the amount of force the club produces can be precisely measured and fixed.
Golf is a sport that demands a lot of precision. If you want to hit the golf ball perfectly you will have to have that perfect stance, swing and weight shift that the game requires. With the advancement of technology golf clubs can be made to precise weights and grips. The clubs can also be manufactured to deliver precise amounts of force to the ball. Thus allowing the golfer to practice a particular stance and grip on the club leaving the design of the golf club and the weight of it to determine the weight shift, allowing for a perfect shot.
We can perhaps be thankful for the advancements in technology that have increased the quality of golf in the recent years. Technologically advanced golf accessories have known to make experts out of amateurs and have even produced world champions. So, lets thank our predecessors for laying the foundation of a game we have so come to love and the technologists for perfecting it for us.
