Baby Weight Average Chart

Is my baby's weight a matter of concern?
According to most charts, my son is above any lines on there as of now (mean more than 95th percentile?). I thought that average baby double weight by 6 months and triple by a year. My baby have already triple by 6 months. And have gained 6 inches in lenght.
At birth: 8 lbs 11oz, 21 inches
2 weeks: 9 lbs 11oz
2 months:15 lbs 3oz
4 months:20 lbs
6 months: 25.6lbs, 27 inches
I have asked the doctor at each appointment, and he re-assured me that it's ok. But at our last appointement (which was last week), he requested my baby to visit a specialist, to check on his belly. What do you think?!... Would you be concerned?
He was exclusively breastfed up until 5 months and half, where I introduced solids food, since breastmilk didn't seem to satisfy him enough. I do not overfeed him really. Just went by recommendations of feedings a day.
He is off the chart for weight, but has only been off the chart since 4 months, if you use a breastfed baby chart.
Currently his height is around the 85th percentile, but his weight is far off the top.
My first was 20lbs at 4 months, and 27lbs at 8 months -but then didn't gain weight for over a year, which was fine he just "grew into" his weight. Also my son's height was consistently over the 97th percentile.
I'd be less concerned if you weren't giving solids though.

It is normal for breastfed babies to gain weight more rapidly than their formula-fed peers during the first 2-3 months and then taper off (particularly between 9 and 12 months). There is absolutely NO evidence that a large breastfed baby will become a large child or adult. In fact, there is good research to indicate that breastfed babies are less likely to be obese children or adults than babies who were formula-fed.
Babies who gain quickly during infancy often start to slim down once they become more mobile; ie. rolling, crawling, pulling up, walking, running, etc. Often toddlers are very picky eaters and/or become almost too "busy" to take the time to eat. The fat laid down in infancy ensures that there are ample stores to pull from during the active toddler years.
Keep in mind, too, that breastmilk is a perfect food. There are NO empty calories or fillers. The amount of fat or calories in breastmilk is not affected by mom's dietary fat or sugar intake. However, mom can change the types of fat in her milk by altering the types of fat that she eats. (See Can you affect the amount of fat or calories in your milk? What we know from research.)
Do not try to limit your baby's nursing by stretching out feedings, limiting time at the breast, using a pacifier to "hold baby off" until a specified time has passed, or offering water so that baby nurses less. It can be dangerous to limit your baby's growth by limiting nursing, as your baby needs the nutrients and fat for proper growth and brain development. Only by continuing to feed your baby on cue will you ensure that his needs are perfectly met and that your milk supply is maintained.

What can cause faster weight gain than the norm in an exclusively breastfed baby?
* Genetics. Did your older children gain quickly as infants? What about Mom & Dad - are you large in size, or were you large as babies? What about other family members?
* Overabundant supply can result in more rapid than normal weight gain (over an ounce per day). However, oversupply is not a concern unless it is causing problems for mom or baby.
* Rarely, too-rapid weight gain can be related to health problems, such as congestive heart failure, renal anomalies, and/or endocrine disorders. If baby has health problems, continued breastfeeding is even more important.
How I can help to prevent my child from becoming overweight?
* The BEST thing you can do to lessen the chance that your baby will become overweight as a child or as an adult is to breastfeed as long as possible.
* Avoid solids for at least 6 months (this is especially helpful for babies who come from a family with a history of obesity or allergies).
* Once you start solid foods, add them slowly to baby's diet. Nurse before offering solids, and make sure that the majority of baby's calories come from breastmilk through the end of the first year.
* Allow your child to eat to appetite - don't push your child to continue eating when he is not hungry.
* Once your baby becomes more active, allow him plenty of time to play and move around.
* As your child becomes older, set a good example with healthy eating habits and exercise.

According to medical science, a pregnancy is first a zygote, then an embryo, then a foetus and only after birth, a baby. But for the hopeful couples, a pregnancy is viewed as a future mother. Studies reveal that 50% of women pregnancy is unplanned. In developing and underdeveloped countries this percentage is more than 90%. That is the reason why they are producing as many children in one year as the total population of some developed countries.
But now more and more educated women are choosing to abort, and in many societies they are supported in their decision. Governments of some countries are also encouraging birth control methods to control the growth of the population.
The units of fertilization contributed by each parent are called Gametes. The male gametes are sperm produced by the testes and the female gametes are eggs, or ova produced by the ovaries. The sex the zygote is determined at the time of fertilization since all ova contain an X-sex chromosome. So, the male's sperm is the determining factor. If it contains an X- chromosome, the zygote will be female (XX) but if it contains a Y- chromosome, the zygote will be male (XY).
Although there is no reliable method of ensuring that a baby is of the desired sex, yet folk nostrums and quack remedies abound in many societies because many people would like to choose the sex of their baby. In many societies, boys are usually preferred to girls.
There are some old wives tales to ensure that your baby is either a boy or a girl. Some are a little odd, while some seem as though they may have a bit of truth to them. According to these tales, mothers carrying boys have a high belly. Most of their pregnancy weight will be in the belly if they are carrying boys in their wombs. Mothers carrying girls will report to be pregnant all over with a larger, lower belly.
According to some other tales, the heart rate of the baby is said to be a predictor of gender. The tale goes that baby boys have a slower heart rate then baby girls. One such myth is having coitus in a certain position or at certain times of the menstrual cycle. Such myths are popular throughout the world. One of the oldest beliefs is that one testicle contains sperm producing only girls, and the other holds sperm that produce only boys. But these are only myths holding no truth in them.

This aspect would invest even the most basic of weight loss plan after pregnancy with an edge above. Most importantly, do not rush through because changes would come at their own stipulated speed. After all, it took 9 months for that weight to pile up; it would be fair enough then to devote the same amount of time in the least, along with concentrated efforts to reap real results.

how to gain weight in pregnancy..any food chart or anything??
i m 17 week pregnant..entering my 18 week..but my problem is i m not gaining weight properly...i donno what to do?whenever i m hungry i eat..but donno what else i can do to gain weight..for this i am also worried about my baby..whether the baby is ok or properly gaining weight..?? if somebody know anything about my problem or experiencing the same plz do share with me..
I always lost weight the first several months during both of my pregnancies and had healthy babies.
You shouldn't eat just whenever you are hungry though. You do have another living being in you. You should be eating 4 to 5 small meals a day, even if you aren't hungry for it. Doesn't have to be a huge meal... just a nice snack with all food groups in it.
Also, if you happen to be heavy, it might be balancing you out a bit.
In the end, checking what your doctor thinks is the best thing you can do. If she/he is ok with your weight, you shouldn' tworry. And you are in the early stages. None in my family ever started to gain until about the 20th week, and they are all fairly thin. But after about the 20th, the weight slips up on ya. lol.

Stretch marks are said to be related to hormonal changes that happens during puberty, pregnancy, and muscle building. Stretch marks are the off-color scarring on the skin that is caused by the tearing of the dermis. This can disappear eventually but not fully. The possibility of developing stretch marks increases among pregnant women. In fact, 75 to 90 percent of women will develop stretch marks during their pregnancy.
For pregnant women, stretch marks will appear on the abdomen, the upper thighs, the buttocks, breasts, and the arms. The enormity and amount of the stretch marks will depend on the pregnant women's total weight gain, genetic history, and the effort that these women put into preventing the stretch marks. What should pregnant women do to prevent stretch marks?
Preventing Stretch Marks
If there is one thing that many pregnant women don't want to have as a souvenir of their pregnancy, it would be stretch marks. Genetics play an important role in whether or not a woman is susceptible to developing stretch marks. So if your mother ever got stretch marks when she was pregnant, there is a big possibility that you would get them also. There are many means in which you can prevent stretch marks from developing. Even if you are inclined to having them, you could limit the possibility by just following some simple guidelines. Here's what you should do:
* Develop a healthy diet. You should control your weight gain to a recommended range of 25 to 35 pounds. This will not only contribute to the general health of your skin but it will also improve the health of the baby. A controlled weight gain will minimize the stretching of the skin and therefore the enormity of the stretch marks will also be minimized.
* Locate the possible areas in which stretch marks will develop or the areas that you want to prevent stretch marks from appearing. Massage these areas using a body brush or a wash cloth to increase the circulation of the blood in that area.
* Hydrate yourself. Drink plenty of water as this helps in improving the health of the skin and the health of the baby too.
* Take vitamins such as Vitamin E. This will ensure the health of your skin.
* Moisturize your skin effectively especially during the first and second trimester. There are many oils and creams that are available for you to use and you can use any of them even without the prescription of your doctor or dermatologist. This will keep your skin elastic and supple as these act as food for your skin. The formula in these creams will enhance the production of collagen, supports the dermis, and still keep the skin intact despite the rigorous stretching.
* Don't forget to take care of your skin even after pregnancy in the post partum period. You will lose weight dramatically during this period and your skin will be more susceptible to stretch marks.

You’re walking in a clothing store, pushing your stroller. You catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and cringe. How did you gain so much weight and how in the world are you going to lose it? You feel overwhelmed with your relentless schedule with baby. Finding time to exercise is an utterly depressing thought. How do you lose your baby weight without losing your mind?
Take a deep breath mom and relax. You didn’t gain those pregnancy pounds overnight and you won’t shed them overnight either. But you will drop every last pound if you follow these three easy principles until you reach success:
1. Make gradual adjustments. If you try a radical diet, you’ll probably stick with it for a few days or weeks, but after a while, you’ll be back to your old eating and exercise habits. It’s better to make small incremental changes that last. If you love having sugar with your coffee, have one teaspoon instead of two. Maybe you order large fries and a large soda at the drive thru. Switch to small. Constantly make gradual adjustments and stick with them until they become your new normal. You want to gradually change your lifestyle to line up with healthy choices.
2. Be solution oriented. Prepare to face food temptations, exercise excuses and days where you fall off the wagon. Problems are inevitable. It’s how you face them that will make all the difference. When you’ve got PMS and chocolate on the brain and you eat too much, don’t wallow in your failure. Regroup and make healthy choices the next day. If you have to drop the gym because it’s too expensive, don’t give up on exercise. Get an exercise DVD and work out at home. Be creative and always push for a solution.
3. Visualize your success. Can you see yourself at your ideal weight? Maybe it’s a physical picture of you before baby. Maybe it’s a better body. You can cut out a picture of someone’s body from a magazine and put your head on it, or even make a virtual you online. Let that visual picture of the new you motivate you to make sacrifices today so you can enjoy that body tomorrow. Picture yourself every day at your ideal weight and imagine how good you will feel in your new and improved body.
When you think of losing weight after baby, don’t let your mind dwell on all the obstacles. Focus on making positive changes every day and keep hope alive in your heart. Take some advice from Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” Practice good habits and enjoy the benefits of healthy choices. You’ll lose your baby weight in the process without losing your mind.

Weight Gain Pregnancy

Stretch marks are extremely common and affect a vast majority of women during their pregnancy. They appear as raised red, pink, purple or dark brown lines or streaks in the skin. Stretch marks generally appear on a woman's belly during pregnancy from the end of the second trimester onwards. The abdomen expands quickly to accommodate the baby growing inside and as a result the skin is stretched on parts of the body where fat is stored.
Causes of Stretch Marks: - Stretch marks are caused by rapid stretching and tearing of the skin, usually as a result of rapid growth. Common reasons include:
* Puberty
* Pregnancy
* Rapid weight gain or obesity
* Fast muscle growth due to exercise
Symptoms of Stretch Marks: - They might show up as indented lines, or they can appear as bright streaks that fade to light pink, white, silver or gray. These colorful marks most commonly end up on several areas, including the stomach, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, lower back or shoulders.
While stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body, they usually appear in locations where the body stores more fat. Common places therefore include the stomach area, breasts, arms and armpits, thighs, hips, and buttocks. In most cases, stretch marks do not pose any health risk and are mainly an annoyance.
Natural Remedies: - More and more women are choosing to use natural and holistic treatments during their pregnancy because they are gentle on the body and support healthy skin from the inside out. There are also many natural ingredients to promote healing of the skin, if such as Rosehip oil that has the ability to rebuild damaged skin tissue and can reduce the appearance of current stretch marks.
*One of the simplest, yet effective home remedies for stretch marks would be to apply lavender oil on the marks, three times a day.
*Creams with vitamin E can be used to cure the stretch marks naturally.
*Another home remedy would be to apply Aloe Vera gel on the marks. They would initially, lighten and finally, remove the marks from the body.
*It helps to have a balanced diet in order to get rid of the stretch marks. A balanced diet provides necessary nourishment to the body and most definitely to the skin making it healthier.
*Prepare a mixture by adding seven drops of lavender oil and a few drops of chamomile oil to an ounce of carrier oil (avocado, sweet almond or jojoba oil). Use it to massage the affected area.
*Includes lots of green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, liver and dairy products in your diet.
*Consume seeds and nuts that contain zinc. They will prove effective in removing stretch marks.
*Aroma oil is beneficial in treating stretch marks problem. Apply some of this oil on the stretch marks and massage well.
*Rub the affected area with apricot scrub. This is likely to remove the stretch marks gradually.
People with stretch marks may feel very self-conscious regarding their 'scars'. A variety of moisturizers, creams and oils containing natural ingredients are available to reduce and prevent the appearance of stretch marks.
