Everywhere you turn there’s this continuous chatter, going on, about the "ideal weight" for a woman. Some claim to know, or have, the solution, but, what does that mean?

Technically, if the chart is your measuring stick, you can be overweight, and look gorgeous rocking your curves, or you can be just a smidge above your ideal weight, and spread like a sack of potatoes. If that’s the case, then ladies what does it really mean to be the correct, or ideal, weight?

There are several factors to take into account when determining what weight you should be:

1. The correct weight for height.

This is an easy one. Someone who is 5’9" is going to carry 163 pounds—the average weight for women in America—much better than someone who is only 4’11". Simple logic, of course, yet, so many women strive to attain to a certain number on the scale, ignoring this simple truth.

At 5’3" and 163 pounds, the average woman could stand to lose about 30-ish pounds; the target weight is 128 pounds for that height.

2. The correct weight for your frame.

Even formal weight charts for men and women split ideal weights into not only height, but small, medium and large frame sizes. This is the difference that people usually refer to as "petite" or "big-boned". Women are built differently, and you have to take into account, realistically, how you’re built when considering your ideal weight.

Again taking the average height for women, a small frame should be 111 to 124 pounds; medium frame: 121 to 135 pounds; and a large frame: 131 to 147 pounds.

3. The correct weight per your body mass index (BMI).

Your BMI helps you to weigh the health risk factor in your height/weight ratio. Again, it’s important to also look in the mirror and figure in your body frame as well.

But more often these days’ doctors and health experts are using BMI to help people take the scale’s numbers out of the equation, and, instead, focus on the health aspect that’s often forgotten when setting weight loss goals.

There are four BMI categories:

• A BMI if less than 19 means you’re underweight.
• A BMI of 19-25 is the range you want to be in for normal weight.
• If your BMI is between 25 and 30, you’re considered overweight.
• More than 30 BMI is in the obese range, where you are at the greatest risk for weight-related health problems.

The average woman, being 5’3" and 163 pounds, has a BMI of 28.9, and, because of that, is on the high end of overweight—leaning toward obesity.

There are a variety of ways to determine what the correct weight for height is; they all do a good job of pointing toward the same basic result, which tells you if weight loss is necessary. However, the most important thing to take into account is how you feel about your body, and how you are going to go about achieving the happiness that you deserve.

I am really overweight.

I have joined a gym, but I want to know some tips and tricks that you guys have to make my weight loss even quicker.

Maybe like, what are some good foods that you ate?
What are some exercises that I can do at home, in my room for when i can't get to the gym.

100 pounds? Are you SURE that you won't be underweight if you lose 100 pounds?

Well, the best thing to do is start off slow, and easy because if you go into it too fast, you'd eventually be like, "scr*ew this!". lol And we don't want that!

FOODS:
I hate it when people say things like, "I'm going to avoid carbs." or something like that because EVERY food group is important. The only think you should avoid is fast food places (ie: burger king, McDonald's, Wendy's, KFC, etc), and not buy junk food (ie: cookies, donuts, ice-cream, etc). Try to have 3 meals a day, with 2 snacks.

-breakfast
-snack
-lunch
-snack
-dinner

Try not to eat after 7:00 or 8:00. Drink plenty of water. It helps eliminate toxins in the body and helps move things along. Also, try to not eat when you're just bored, ya know? REALLY ask yourself: am I hungry? or do I just want something to put in my mouth? If you're REALLY THAT hungry, eat! If you're doing it because you're bored, suck on an ice cube, or drink water. ^_^. Don't worry about counting calories and crap. lol. Just avoid foods high in TRANS fat and SATURATED fat (a.ka. junk food)

EXERCISES:
Don't worry about doing crunches and sit ups to try and get that "nice flat stomach". It doesn't work that way. lmao. What you have to do is do AEROBIC exercise. Meaning, any exercise that gets your heart pumping, and when your heart pumps, you burn fat. Running, swimming, jumping rope, karate, cycling, and jogging are all forms of aerobic exercise. Of course, you should also add in the crunches and sit ups too because muscle burns fat.

MOTIVATION:
Since you joined the gym, I think that's enough motivation. lol. You are surrounded by people who have the same goals as you and are surrounded by people who KNOW what they're doing. If you want, try putting out fresh fruits and vegetables out on the table. Things such as strawberries, bananas, carrots, and celery. Put up pictures of healthy models (not those stupid stick thin models who starve themselves. People like tyra banks). And whenever you lose 10 pounds, go out and do something nice for youself. Get your nails or hair done. Try to resist buying outfits yet. Wait til you have reached your weight goal. That way you can splurge on ALL new outfits that fit your NEW BODY! ^_^

Adult protein deficiency is a condition that most adults will not give a second thought to, and it is a condition that many thought only existed in children, young adults, or third world countries.

Protein deficiency is a condition that every adult needs to take seriously, wherever you live, as it can have some serious health implications. In fact, if you do not get enough protein, your body will start to breakdown bone protein and calcium to supply the energy needs of our body.

Protein is the enzyme in our bodies that will have an impact on virtually every function within the body. Our immune system, which protects us, demands a constant supply of either dietary or supplemented protein in order to continually build new cells in its daily battle against infections and disease.

As we age, our bodies undergo physiologic changes such as a decreasing bone density, muscle mass declines, as well as hormonal changes in both males and females.

Osteopenia, which occurs in both male and female adults, is a decline of bone material mass that will eventually lead to an increased risk of bone fractures. Other possible risks of adult protein deficiency are a loss of balance and gait issues, tooth decay and other oral conditions, as well as possible vertebral and back issues.

So what exactly is protein, how does it function?

Proteins in our bodies, especially as we age, continue to be absolutely a must for both the growth as well as the maintenance of virtually every type of cell within our bodies. The eight essential amino acids are acids that are bodies can not synthesize and as a result they must be supplied by our diets, or supplements, and the twelve non-essential acids can be produced by our bodies. However, in order to be produced, there must be an ample supply of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen that are supplied by the fats and carbohydrates that will have fed into our body.

The bodily process of digesting proteins all begins in our stomachs. The acids in our stomachs secrete protein which makes it susceptible to the degradation process by our enzymes. Digestion into our body is than finished in the small intestine where single amino acids as well as peptides are absorbed into our blood stream.

Some of the proteins that we will eat and digest will contain all of the amino acids that are necessary to build new protein, and these are referred to as complete proteins. Most animal sources of protein are considered complete. However, other sources of proteins lack one of more of the essential amino acids, and are there for are considered incomplete.

These sources of proteins usually come from nuts, vegetables, fruits, and grains.

In adults especially, the proper intake of proteins keeps your immune system functioning and helps to produce enzymes for cellular growth; whereas a deficiency of protein in adults will result in muscle loss, weight loss causing fatigue and weakness, an increased frequency of infections, and a condition known as edema, which is fluid retention.

It can also cause hair loss in both men and women.

If you are a male adult experiencing hair loss, how is your protein intake?

There are three basic components that adults must have to remain healthy as we age, water, fiber, and protein. Protein deficiencies in adults will occur most often in overweight as well as dangerously underweight adults, pregnant women, and geriatric adults, especially in relationship to bone and skeletal preservation.

Most adults have very little knowledge as to what their protein requirements are, and as a result they do not come close to adequate intake levels. The adult body will require between 0.5 and 0.9 grams of protein per lean muscle mass, and the figure can change drastically depending on your levels of physical activity.

In young adults, the skeletal muscle accounts for about 45 percent of your total weight, but by the age of 70, it accounts for only roughly 30 percent. There is a large percentage of the medical community that now feels that the older we get the requirement for protein increase; it does not stay the same, especially to maintain nitrogen equilibrium.

Nitrogen balance is extremely important to adults in reference to the proper protein intake. This balance is an indication of protein syntheses and degradation. A positive nitrogen balance basically indicates that protein turnover in our body is adequate in that it provides a continuous exchange of material and energy to the body.

This is extremely important for adults, as a non-growing body is constantly renewing itself and in the process creating stability.

One of the best food sources for adults to prevent protein deficiency other than meat, poultry, or seafood, would be a common egg, and is by far the least expensive. Eggs have the essential amino acids required as well as a very high amount of protein.

All adults face the possibility of being protein deficient, but none more than vegetarians. However, if you are a vegetarian, you must also be aware the besides protein deficiency, so will face a very large risk of being deficient in both Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B 12.

Protein adult deficiency is finally starting to get some long overlooked research and acceptance, that indeed, adults can also be deficient with protein in their everyday lives.

I am an avid lover of pets and my wife and I have had several pets throughout our years. We are especially fond of dogs, and we have a 12 year old Dalmatian (our 3rd) and a "mutt" that we rescued when someone threw him away to die in a vacant field. He found us, nearly starved to death, and weighed about 2 pounds. After severe bouts of mange and severe dehydration, and over 1,000.00 in veterinarian bills, we saved the little guys life, and he is one of the best, if not the best, dogs we have ever had and today is a muscular, fit, and firm 70 pound best friend. After finishing my MBA, which at middle age was not easy, I decided to keep the research work ethics that I acquired, and devote about two hours each night in understanding the health benefits of supplementation for both humans and pets and how they might strengthen our, as well as our pets, immune system in a pre-emptive approach to health rather than a reactionary approach. Both of my daughters are avid cat lovers, and asked me to help them with health concerns and challenges with their cats. Medical research has shown that by adopting a healthy diet you greatly reduce the risks of developing various conditions, especially the chronic diseases such as diabetes. Choose a healthy diet that includes a large amount of fruit and vegetables, which contain the important fibre you need to lower the rate (or slow down) sugar (glucose) absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, so your blood glucose levels don't rise too quickly! It is also very important to consume vegetables as they are (raw) and try not to overcook them as they lose all their wonderful healthy nutrients. A good healthy diet is also one that contains low fat, low salt low cholesterol and low saturated fat (less than 6 g per 100g). The cholesterol is a major factor for heart disease not helped by too many fast-food type of meals. Always be well informed of the nutritional content when consuming new types (and old types!) of food; again there is a lot of useful information on this topic out there.

It is equally important to maintain a normal healthy weight for your body. It is proven and you surely know this by now, that excess body fat often times leads to heart (cardiovascular) conditions and other health problems, such as Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Have you been trying to shed that extra weight you are carrying around and decided to start fasting to reach your goal? Well, for your information the age-old practice of fasting has been incorporated into healthy weight loss plans. Yes, fasting or eating little or no food, will result in loss of weight. However, it is a short term or temporary result. That was the good news, but the fact and bad news is there are risks that can ultimately cause added health problems.

Fasting plans or ideas usually start with a strict diet of only water, juice or some kind of laxative. But keep in mind, not all fasts are the same. Some fasts such as medical fasts under the supervision of a physician or health professional can be safe.

Those fasts that last a day or two are not likely to be dangerous for the majority of healthy adults. However, high-risk people such as the elderly, anyone with a chronic disease pregnant women, and children are advised not to use ANY type of fasting. Staying on a fast for anywhere from three days to a month is extremely dangerous.

You will lose weight when you reduce the amount of calories you consume. However, it can cause health problems as well. Also, when you begin fasting, your body burns calories much slower.

You should understand that the beginning weight lost on a fast is basically fluid or "water weight," not fat. Then, when you start eating again, the lost weight usually returns like chickens coming home to roost. Even worse, the weight that returns is more than likely to be all fat.

There are side effects from fasting that include dizziness, headaches, muscle aches, weakness, and fatigue. Fasting for long periods of time can lead to anemia, a weakened immune system, and liver and kidney problems as well. Furthermore, it can also result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies, muscle breakdown, and diarrhea. The risks get more complicated and severe the longer you stay on a fast, or if you repeatedly go on fasts.

Why You Do Not Need a Detoxification Diet

It sounds logical that fasting could cleanse your body of harmful substances that could cause a host of ailments like obesity fatigue, and headaches. But there is no scientific evidence that you need to fast to "cleanse" your body or remove toxins.

Nutrition experts and health professionals agree that fasting is a potentially dangerous, and not a really effective way to lose weight. Do not go on a fast without first consulting your doctor or nutritionist.

Rather than fasting, it is better to choose a healthy weight loss eating plan that you can stick with for the long haul. Also, healthy diets provide a minimum of 1,200 calories and include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats, along with regular physical exercise.
